The RICS’s Guide provides a best practice approach to technical due diligence for investors, developers, purchasers and vendors of commercial and industrial property. This Guide is particularly timely given the global financial crisis provides an unusually challenging market requiring the highest level of professionalism in property. It is thought that when the cycle upswing commences there will inevitably be a far greater degree of caution by banks and institutional investors. This will inevitably mean more attention is given to the technical attributes of assets and a heavy reliance on professional Technical Due Diligence. Our presenter will also be able to provide a view from Downunder, particularly given the significant progress made in Australia in recent years in the recognition of the role of Facilities Management as the foremost contributor to a more “productive and sustainable Built Environment”. In addition hear about ‘relifing’ strategies for existing buildings to enhance the quality and value of your facilities. Stephen Ballesty is the Sydney based Director and Head of Advisory for leading global professional services group Rider Levett Bucknall. He is a Chartered FM Surveyor and the co-author of the Property Council of Australia’s 'a Guide to Office Building Quality' (2006), the FM Action Agenda’s ‘Managing the Built Environment’ series (2005-08), CRC-CI’s ‘FM as a business enabler’ (2007) and RICS Oceania's new 'Technical Due Diligence Guidelines' (2009). Stephen currently serves as a Director and the Immediate Past Chairman of the Facility Management Association of Australia and since 2007 Stephen has been a member of Board of Trustees of the IFMA Foundation.
