Surviving Complexity: Working More Hours isn’t the Answer

These days everyone owes their time and energy to many workplace masters. We juggle analysis, customer service, supervision, time management, strategic planning, problem solving, and more. We work tirelessly on a seemingly infinite knot of interrelated problems and issues, and wonder how we will ever get it all done. We sense we are spread too thin, and that our complex workload is somehow impossible, so we work more hours to get the same output. But our hours are finite, and our lives not our own. Meanwhile, the complexity and the to-do list seem only to grow. Can we succeed despite overwhelming and contradictory goals?

The answer is yes, but only by being on target and working "on-purpose" at all times. Edward Muzio, award-winning author of Four Secrets to Liking Your Work (FT Press 2008) presents information from his second book, Make Work Great (McGraw-Hill 2010).

Discover a tool for defining your purpose amidst overwhelming and conflicting responsibilities, and practice using it, in an interactive, multimedia session. You will leave with a new conceptual understanding of what may have previously seemed like a disjointed role, and you might even get reenergized about your work in the process.
