RICS Caldecott Fourth Bore Project Site Visit & Presentation - Lafayette, CA

Please join the RICS Northern California chapter for a presentation and site visit of the Caldecott Fourth Bore Project. The site visit to the tunnel will include a discussion about the technical and project management aspect of the project and will be followed by a presentation.

Schedule:
11:00 am Presentation by Bhaskar Thapa, Project Design Engineer; Q&A

11:45 am Carpool to the Contractor's Office (Tutor Saliba, 990 Fish Ranch Road, Orinda - please park in lower lot)
Sign individual waiver forms and safety check. Attendees will be provided with hardhats, safety vests, and goggles.

12:10 pm Walk to east side construction site vantage point, Q&A related to
tunneling on the eastern side

12:40 pm Carpool to western portal (Maintenance Bridge) and any additional questions will be answered

1:00 pm Depart Project Site

Please park in spaces in front of the building on Mount Diablo Blvd. or on a side street (Stewart Street). As parking is limited, carpooling is highly recommended.

Attire:
Please wear long pants and shoes or boots that cover the foot (hiking boots are suggested). For safety reasons, those not wearing appropriate attire will not be permitted access to the project work site. Tennis shoes, flip flops and high heeled shoes or boots are not permitted.

Project Overview:

The project involves constructing a two-lane fourth bore tunnel north of the existing three bores. The new tunnel clear width is 12.58 m (41.25 ft), and the total length is 1,033 m (3,389 ft). Seven cross-passages will be constructed to connect the third and fourth bores to serve as emergency exits.

In addition, the project includes the following elements:
• Construction of retaining walls and temporary and permanent soundwalls
• Demolition of the existing maintenance building and construction of a new two-story operations and maintenance building
• Installation of operations, communications and emergency systems
• Various roadway improvements
