Become an RICS Fellow

The designation of Fellowship is a badge of achievement in RICS and the professionals who carry it are expected to show the highest level of accomplishment throughout their career.

The letters FRICS represent a prestigious RICS award that reflects the career achievements of a special group of property professionals. Typically, Fellows are leaders in their field who have completed unique projects and contributed to the profession.

"The Fellowship application process was seamless and administered with the highest degree of professionalism.  The recent upgrade to Fellowship will provide me with invaluable added credentials, which will foster continued growth and success in the Valuation field, not only in the US, but globally. The world of Valuation Services is rapidly changing, and we professionals in the field, need to grow and expand our knowledge, experience and expertise, for the greater good."

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What is required to become an RICS Fellow?
A:
A detailed description of the requirements can be found in the downloads linked above. Please make sure to download the application, guide notes, and checklist to confirm these requirements.

Q: How do I know if I am eligible?
A:
Any member holding the MRICS designation is eligible to apply for RICS fellowship.

Q: What if you do not know two members to serve as referees?
A: You now have the option of collecting references from two individuals who have know you for at least two years and are either RICS Fellows (FRICS) who have held the designation for 1+ day, or RICS Members (MRICS) who have been elected members for 5+ years. Your references can be active or retired MRICS or FRICS. Contact details for all members are online at
www.rics.org/gmd or www.ricsamericas.org/directory

Q: Who collects the references for RICS? The candidate or RICS?
A:
It is your responsibility to ask your sponsors to submit the references to RICS. Your sponsors have the choice of emailing, faxing or mailing references to RICS, to the attention of the Americas Fellowship Committee. Please make sure that the reference form, “RICS Fellowship Reference”, has your full name and your membership number listed, as well as the sponsor's contact details. Above is a stand-alone form you can email to your sponsor(s) for completion.

Q: I completed an Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) Route? Does my submission look different than anyone else's?
A:
You will be required to send the same submissions as other candidates, but you are welcome to use segments of your original application (like the CV/resume) for the fellowship submission. Please note, successful APC candidates may receive a recommendation from RICS and their panel regarding when they should consider applying for Fellowship: within one year of election; in 2 – 3 years; in at least five years.

Q: Do I have to submit a CPD planner directly from the RICS web site?
A:
Yes and no. Yes, you should begin registering your CPD on the RICS web site – it’s a requirement of all members elected after 2004:
www.rics.org/cpd
Nonetheless, we are aware some individuals have difficulty printing and/or downloading their RICS CPD record in a manageable format. As a result, if you have printing/downloading issues, we are happy to accept your CPD record in a three part Word or Excel document. A template is linked above for your reference, “Sample CPD Summary”.  You will submit a CPD record covering 2008-2011 activities.

Q: Is there a fee to apply for FRICS?
A: Yes. An application fee of US $472.23 is required at the time of submission. As of August 2009, individuals who send incomplete submissions will have one year (12 months) from their submission date to email in outstanding documents. Applications that remain incomplete after 12 months will be returned, and a new Fellowship Application Fee will be required with resubmission.
