| Toronto Holiday Social On December 9, 2010 the RICS Americas Toronto Chapter hosted its annual Members’ Holiday Social at P.J. O’Briens Pub. The event drew nearly 60 attendees, including many non-members who work closely or are friends of RICS members. Eastern Canada Chapter Chair, Phil Smith welcomed the group and thanked the local board members who helped organize the social. Canada Chapter Chair, John Hughes and RICS North Americas Director, Neil Shah, were also in attendance. John and Neil were happy to share that membership in the Eastern Canada Chapter is growing. As always, the evening was a success and a great opportunity for professional colleagues, co-workers and friends to network and meet new RICS members. Calgary Chapter Developments The Calgary Chapter, now being led by Paul Smith, is hosting a post-holiday dinner on January 20th, 2011 at Glencoe Country Club. Paul is looking forward to the opportunity to meet new members and share ideas for 2011 activities. Neil Shah, RICS North Americas Director will give a presentation and be on hand to answer questions. Toronto International Film Festival’s Bell Lightbox On November 17th, the Toronto Chapter held another event in its Development Series – A tour of TIFF’s new home: The Bell Lightbox (sponsored by the Altus Group and Standard Life Financial). The event was an opportunity to showcase Toronto’s newest cultural attraction and give RICS members insight into the architecture and construction of this multi-use facility. RICS partnered with the Urban Land Institute to offer a tour of the new building followed by a reception. The tours were led by architects from KPMB and Noah Cowen, the Lightbox Artistic Director. Members were given an insider’s view of the expansive space. Beyond the state of the art movie theatres, the building boasts galleries, a cafe, a lounge, restaurants, a shop and a reference library. During the tour, members had a sneak-peek of the set-up for the Tim Burton exhibit that is now running. Following the tour, members and colleagues from ULI Toronto enjoyed a reception in the Blackberry Lounge – another impressive part of the Lightbox facility. Further details on the building and tour will be featured in an upcoming RICS Brief. December and January Chapter Events:
